Old Tuareg Touareg Man's Leather Wallet with Cowrie Shell-AFRICA


A traditional old and used Tuareg leather man's leather wallet entirely hand made of goatskin. The surface leather on the exterioris detailed with a hand-impressed geometric pattern; the intereiorm, composed of two pocketed sections are adorned with linear hand-impressed designs as well as hand cut-out star and dot motifs, all is typically Tuareg.
Such a wallet was intended to hold paper money as well as other documents of importance. As is customary amongst the Tuareg, men prepare and tan the skin used to elaborate their goods, and the women affix all detail decoration such as patterns, etc..
Rich usage patina.
Collected in the region of Timbuktu, Mali some 20 years ago.
