An old and tribally used Senoufo divination figure representing a female.
The Senoufo are an ethnic group living in northern Côte d'Ivoire and Mali; the woman's society, known as the sandogo is mainly responsible for divination.
Extremely superstitious, the Senoufo are animists, and believe that the ancestor spirits oversee the destiny of all things and beings.
Ritual practices are very strictly observed as it is believed that not carrying out a ritual in the proper manner could result in drought, infertility, or prolonged illness.
Rich patina of age and usage - Collected in Mali.
