A fine Bambara hand-forged iron, or fer noir horseman wearing a large hat, from the region of San, Mali.
The horseman firmly holds the bridle with both hands; Bambara style and skill of iron smiting is displayed in the linear and abstract and modern combination of lines and forms.
Iron-smiting is an extremely skilled craft carried out by specialized craftsmen using very rudimentary and simple tools.
Nice oxidized patina - Collected in Mali.
