Dogon Hand-Forged Iron of Fetisher with Sacrifice-AFRICAA Dogon hand-forged iron or "fer noir" representing a fetisher with his sacrifices. In one hand he hold a bird, and in the other a large knife, at his feet is another bird; beside the altar for sacrifices is a curved divination staff.
The fetisher is adorned by a very elaborate headdress; his facial features are exquisitely fine and detailed.
Characteristic of the Dogon style of iron smiting are the linear and abstract lines combined with wonderful curvilinear shapes.
Iron-smiting is a skilled craft carried out by an exclusive caste the " forgeron", he is also the carver of ritual masks.
